  • The Steuben County Board of Legislators approved the names of three persons to be inducted April 28, 2012 into the county Hall of Fame.  
    The 2012 Hall of Fame inductees include Archie Peck of Hornell, George Peck of Prattsburgh, NY , Joseph Meade, Jr., Hammondsport, NY.
    They were selected from over 20 nominations received by the Steuben County Hall of Fame Selection Committee chaired by Twila O’Dell.  Other members of the committee include Joseph E. Paddock, DMV, Betty Flanagan, Virginia Wright, Jerry Wright, Janet Stone, Donald B. Creath, John Roy, Lorraine Loomis-Konig, Mary Pelham, Harry Reynolds, Carol Reynolds, Lenora Applebee, Bonnie Moore, Edward Clancy, Jr. and Carol Ferratella Legislative Liaison.  
    Archie A. Peck  (1894 – 1978)  He was born November 22, 1894.  In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S,. Army Company A 307th Infantry, 77th Division.  He served in the Meuse-Argonne offensive.    Mr. Peck and two other soldiers, while on patrol duty rescued many wounded soldiers.  Archie is the Hornell area’s only Congressional Medal of Honor winner.  After the war he owned and operated A A Peck’s General Store, served as Commander of the American legion Post 778 of Sinclairville, NY, was a volunteer Fireman and served on the School Board of Education at Cassadaga Valley Central School.  
    George W. Peck  (1854 – 1937) was born at Landsdowne, Ontario, Canada on February 18, 1854.  He was a very successful businessman with stores in several towns around Steuben County and elsewhere.  He was elected  Prattsburgh  supervisor in 1888, served on the school board, was Town of Bath supervisor in 1907 and 1909.  
    Joseph F. Meade, Jr  (1921 – 2010) was born June 26, 1921.  He graduated from Hammondsport High School in 1939 and attended Alfred University until enlisting in World War II.  During WWII, he served aboard an aircraft carrier and while in action, received both the Silver Medal and the Purple Heart.   Mr. Meade was President of Mercury Aircraft for 37 years.
    The 2013 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held April 27, at the Bath Country Club on May Street in Bath.  A reception will be held at noon with the luncheon to follow at 12:30.  The induction ceremony will be held immediately following the luncheon.  
    The cost is $12.00 per person.  For reservations, send a check to Steuben County Historian at 3 E. Pulteney Sq., Bath, New York 14810.  Reservations should be made by April 17, 2013 with checks written to the Steuben County Treasurer.
