Attention procrastinators.
The deadline to file state and federal personal income taxes has been extended to April 18, three days later than the traditional April 15 date, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance said Thursday, Jan. 13.
The change this year is due to the observance of the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington, D.C. The Internal Revenue Service recently announced the extension of its deadline to the next business day, which is April 18.
Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Oct. 17 to file their 2010 taxes.
