  • Corning Community College President Dr. Kate Douglas signed a “2 plus 2” articulation agreement Monday with Rochester’s St. John Fisher College.
It’s a formal partnership that ensures students in about a half-dozen associate’s degree programs at CCC will have a “smooth transition” into a related bachelor’s degree program at St. John Fisher, Douglas said.
There will be cooperation between the advising and counseling staffs at the two colleges. That means students will take the proper courses while they’re at CCC so all credits transfer, and are enrolled in the right courses when they arrive at St. John Fisher as juniors.
“This agreement effectively maps a clear road from the associate to the bachelor’s degree, minimizing time to both degrees in the process,” Douglas said. “This is a key goal as the price of college tuition outpaces inflation every year.”
The CCC-SJU partnership will focus on business administration, nursing and social sciences degree programs.
St. John Fisher is in the midst of major expansions in several of its campus facilities and programs, noted Dr. Donald Bain, SJU president.
CCC already has articulation agreements with about two dozen fouryear schools in the SUNY system, as well as more than a dozen private colleges, Douglas said.
She said students who go through a “2 plus 2” program are more likely to successfully complete their bachelor’s degree.
