ERWIN | Deputies report the arrest of Eli S. Rosa, 17, of Berlin St. in Rochester at 1:36 p.m. Monday. Rosa was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant out of the town of Erwin court as he was being released from Chemung County Jail. Rosa was arraigned in the town of Erwin court where he was remanded on $500 cash bail. Rosa is set to return to the town of Erwin court at a later date.
WEST UNION | Deputies investigated the accident of Christopher A. Mitchell, 24, of Kim Hill Road in Roulette, PA and Carris M. Jackson, 31, of N. Fork Road in Westfield, PA at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday. Mitchell was traveling south on County Route 124 in the town of West Union when he attempted to make a left hand turn into a farm. Jackson was traveling north on County Route 124 in the town of West Union when she came upon Mitchell attempting to make the turn. Jackson was unable to avoid the collision and struck Mitchell’s vehicle causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
Jackson’s vehicle then left the roadway and struck a farm structure and came to rest inside the vehicle. Jackson suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
Mitchell’s vehicle spun 180 degree’s and exited the roadway but did not strike any other objects coming to rest off the shoulder of the roadway. Mitchell was cited for unlicensed operation and is scheduled to appear in the town of West Union court at a later date.
Superior court warrant
ERWIN | Deputies report the arrest of Jarrod A. Lockwood, 21, of Lamphear Court in the city of Corning Monday. Lockwood was arrested on a superior court warrant for fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. Allegedly in the early part of 2012 Lockwood sold a quantity of methamphetamine to another person while in the town of Erwin. Lockwood was arraigned in Steuben County Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail with no bail.
BATH | Deputies report the arrest of an inmate at the Steuben County Jail July 25. Richard E. VanGorden, 38, was charged with first-degree criminal contempt. The charge stems from an investigation that revealed that VanGorden was passing letters to another inmate for whom an order of protection was issued. VanGorden was arraigned in the town of Bath court and returned to the Steuben County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. VanGorden is currently being held on $500,000 bail awaiting trial for first-degree attempted murder.
Violation of probation warrant of arrest
CORNING | Deputies report the arrest of Benjamin S. Alderman, 24, of State Route 352 in the town of Corning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26. Alderman was taken into custody at his home on a felony violation of probation warrant of arrest. Alderman was arraigned in Steuben County Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail with no bail. Alderman is set to return to Steuben County Court at a later date.
