  • A little girl’s efforts to fight childhood cancer has reaped more dividends, with the B.C.A. Bath Pool League donating the $2,300 proceeds of its recent Huckster Memorial Pool Tournament to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital.
Tournament organizers said they were inspired by the example of Keagan Sutton, of Hammondsport, who has raised nearly $1,000 for childhood cancer research.
Keagan began her fundraising efforts after her “Grandma Reva” died earlier this year. She learned children could fall prey to the illness and  began collecting donations and held a bake sale during the village of Hammondsport’s annual garage sale weekend.
Organizers said the tournament, started by Albert “Huck” Covell,  was intended to raise money for  local cancer research organizations.
In a press release, league officials said, “Hearing of the generosity and unselfishness of this young child is wanting to help other children stricken with cancer, our league decided that because of her spirit and commitment to follow through with wanting to help others, we would also like to donate our proceeds this year of $2,300 to help St. Jude's with the research for the cause and cure of cancer for children. We owe our thanks and appreciation for the path of this donation to a wonderfully considerate and caring young girl named Keagan.”
