  • During the past five years, there has been an explosion in the use of cellular technology, primarily in the form of the smart phone. While the technology has many benefits for society, there are negative impacts on highway safety. In response, the State Police has made distracted driving enforcement an agency priority. While Troopers are asked to enforce New York’s hand held phone and electronic devices laws at all times, statewide crackdowns on these violations, known as “Operation Hang up,” will be conducted during specified periods to raise awareness and deterrence.
The Operation Hang-Up Campaign will run from Wednesday, November 21, through Sunday, November 25, 2012. During “Operation Hang up”, additional troopers will be utilized to ensure compliance and safety during the Thanksgiving Holiday.
