  • The Strongman Competition held at Harvest and Artists Market in Hammondsport Sat., June 15, was a huge success enjoyed by approximately 300 spectators.
Seven contestants participated in the seven physical challenges:

    2. 1957 Willys truck push: Push the truck for distance within a certain time period.
    3. Ash Firewood throw: Throw a chunk of fire-wood over your head as far as you freaking can!!! (30 pound chunk)
    4. Giant barbell press: (Compliments of Todd and Mark Bennett from Bennett’s Auto Parts) A 125#  barbell made of 4 tires and rims.
    5. Austrian ash log carry: Carry two big ash logs (Approximately 8 inch by 8 feet long) as fast as you can!
    6. Monster tire flip:   550# tire
    7. Farmer milk jug run: 3 large milk jugs will be filled with sand/gravel and each Strongman will carry the 75 pounder first running 100 feet to the next heavier one, the 125 pounder. Then running with that one 100 feet to get the heaviest jug, the 175 pounder. Then  running back with that one the final grueling 100 feet.
Tied for first place were Patrick Holton of Bath and Bryan Allen of Elmira.  The second place winner was Dan Agnese of Dryden.  Finishing in third place was Charles Schimmel Jr. of Prattsburgh which astounded everyone since he doesn't lift weights but throws garbage cans onto a truck and works as a mechanic for 80 hours a week.  Also participating were Marcus Williamee, Ithaca; Ben Hartman, Pulteney; and David Morris, Prattsburgh.
The Strongman Competition was such a success that Harvest and Artists Market will hold it again in June of 2014. Next year's competition will be between teams of three men.  The strongmen will also be joined by a Strongwoman Competition.  Those who are interested should contact Jodi Andrysick at harvestandartists@hotmail.com.
