  • Beginning Nov. 19 applications for regular HEAP benefits will be accepted in Bath at Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc., 117 E. Steuben St. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applications may also be filed with the Steuben County Department of Social Services from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Beginning Nov. 19 applications for regular HEAP benefits will be accepted in Bath at Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc., 117 E. Steuben St. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applications may also be filed with the Steuben County Department of Social Services from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    All applications can be filed by mail and all households are eligible for a telephone interview.  Those looking for heating equipment repair or replacement may now request a personal interview at the Bath office of the Department of Social Services.
    For applications, call Pro Action, the Office for the Aging or the Department of Social Services on or after Nov. 19. Applications  also will be accepted beginning Dec. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30-4 p.m. at the Steuben County Courthouse at 10 W. First Street Corning on Thursdays.
    Applications for emergency HEAP benefits will be available Jan. 2, 2013.
    Those interested in applying for assistance should keep in mind:
    • An application may not be obtained at any HEAP location or by telephone request before Nov. 19.
    Applications may be downloaded from www.otda.state.ny.us/otda/heap on or after November 19, 2012.
    • Households now receiving help should contact the Department of Social Services to determine if they automatically qualify for HEAP.
    • Those over 60, or disabled and receiving SSI or Social Security Disability benefits may get help filing HEAP applications from the county Office for the Aging.
    • All households facing shut-off of service and not receiving HEAP benefits during the 2012-2013 HEAP season must come complete a face-to-face interview.
    • Households facing shut-off that have received a regular HEAP benefit may apply by telephone with the Department of Social Services.
