State Sen. Tom O’Mara has launched a new feature on his website that offers information on rural affairs in New York and nationally.
“Rural Features” offers an informative roundup that includes updates on legislative efforts and initiatives in rural communities, as well as summaries for rural leaders on grants, publications, useful websites and upcoming events.
The current summer issues includes articles on:
• The state’s efforts to combat the spread of the emerald ash borer infestation threatening New York’s ash trees.
• Legislation to strengthen the home care safety net in rural communities.
• A property tax exemption program created this year to help rebuild rural downtowns.
• Incentives for New York state farmers to install solar thermal systems.
O’Mara, R-Big Flats, was appointed earlier this year to serve on the bi-partisan Legislative Commission on the Development of Rural Resources.
