  • A Cameron man was killed over the weekend from injuries sustained in an accident in the Town of Southport, according to the Chemung County Sheriff ’s Office.
Shawn M. Smith, 21, died at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira after the crash, which occurred at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of State Route 14 and State Route 328.
According to Sheriff Christopher Moss, Smith was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on Route 328 when he collided with a Volkswagen Beetle driven by Benjamin C. Robbins, 19, of Troy, Pa.
Robbins was driving south on Route 14 and failed to yield the right of way as he made a left turn, Moss said.
Smith was thrown from the motorcycle, suffering severe injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor, Moss said.
    The investigation is continuing.
The Chemung County Sheriff ’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Southport and Webb Mills fire departments and Erway Ambulance.
