  • No one was injured when a pair of fires destroyed two area homes Monday night, April 15.
    The first fire began around 10 p.m. at Victory Village near Massi’s Greenhouses in Painted Post, Coopers Plains Fire Chief Todd Hall said. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the mobile home’s roof.
    The lone occupant of the home made it out safely. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Hall said.
    The Painted Post, East Campbell, Forest View-Gang Mills and Campbell fire departments provided mutual aid. Rural Metro Ambulance, New York State Police, the Steuben County Sheriff ’s Office and Steuben County fire investigators and the deputy fire coordinator assisted at the scene.
    The second fire was reported shortly before midnight at the Rolling Acres Trailer Park in Millport. One person was home when the fire started. The occupant escaped safely.
    The fire was ruled accidental, WETM TV reported.
    The Red Cross is assisting.
