Avoca 4/Bath Haverling 1
AVOCA | Logan Larsen, Jess Dgien and Lexi Fairbrother each won their singles matches in straight sets to lead the Avoca tennis team to a 4-1 Steuben County Athletic Association tennis win over Bath Haverling Monday.
Bath’s lone win came from its first doubles team of Sara Recktenwald and Olivia Bradstreet, who prevailed in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Avoca’s Shilia Abbott and Amanda Sabins teamed up to take their second doubles match in straight sets.
Avoca (3-0) will play at Prattsburgh at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Wellsville 3/Prattsburgh 2
PRATTSBURGH | Lexi Sanford picked up Prattsburgh’s lone singles win in a 3-2 loss to Wellsville Monday.
Sanford rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wellsville’s Tori Noller in third singles action. Sanford is an eighth grader, while Noller is a ninth grader.
“The third singles match clearly was the match of the night, with a lot of long rallies,” Prattsburgh head coach Bill Stollery said. “These two are going to battling for years to come. Lexi was down 5-0 in first set and lost, but continued to rally. The rallies were amazing. It was really an excellent match.”
The Vikings also got a win from their first doubles team of Leslie Darrin and Vanessa Stephan, who won 6-1, 6-3. Wellsville’s Emma Jackson and Emily Gilfert prevailed in first and second singles, respectively.
Prattsburgh (1-1) will play at Hammondsport at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
