  • The “Step It Up!” program is a free, six-week community walking program being offered April 8–May 20. The program is designed to improve overall health through a focus on improved nutrition and increased activity.

  • The “Step It Up!” program is a free, six-week community walking program being offered April 8–May 20. The program is designed to improve overall health through a focus on improved nutrition and increased activity.
    The program Kick-Off Event will be held April 8. At the Kick-Off Event, participants will receive free health screenings, nutrition and walking tips, and a walking log. In addition, WIC Nutritionist Mary Elizabeth Baker will discuss walking exercise benefits. A Mid-Program group Walk will take place April 29 at which Clara Tryon of Turtle Leaf Café will present a healthy smoothie course complete with tastings. At the May 20 program End Event, health screenings will be repeated to track participant progress. Attending program participants will be eligible for prize drawings for a Nook® tablet, George Foreman Grill®, and other health and fitness items.
    All events begin at 6 p.m. at the Chemung County Health Department in Elmira. For more information or to register for the program call Chemung County Health Department at 607-737-2028.
