  • The body of one of two men reported missing Friday on Canandaigua Lake has been recovered.
The body of Floyd “Zack” Frey was brought to shore around 11:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Department.
Yates Sheriff Ron Spike reported Frey’s body was located in 18 feet of water approximately 200 feet from shore.
Frey, 19, of 25 Douglas Drive and a friend, Randall “RJ” Lis, 20, of the same address, went to the Vine Valley Trailer Park late Wednesday or early Thursday to camp at the Frey family’s seasonal home, according to the Daily Messenger in Canandaigua.
Spike said the two men are believed to have gone canoeing shortly after arriving at the trailer park in Lis’ vehicle.
“Indications are they capsized and both drowned as the water temperature is approximately 41 degrees,” Spike said.
Articles of clothing and the canoe were recovered Friday 0.25 miles north of Vine Valley, according to Spike.
The search, involving 20 divers from four agencies, was first launched early Friday morning after an unidentified relative reported the men were missing.
A student at Finger Lakes Community College, Frey was the best friend of Lis, an employee at The Distillery, a bar and restaurant in Victor, the Daily Messenger reported. The two men used the canoe the previous weekend to float and watch the sunrise, according to the Messenger.
Frey’s body was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiners for an autopsy.
The Yates Sheriff’s Department is being assisted by the Ontario County Sheriff, Branchport-Keuka Park Fire Department, Richmond Fire Department, Middlesex Volunteer Ambulance and Richmond Fire Department Ambulance.
