  • Out of 14 American Legions in Steuben County, the FIRST American Legion Riders chapter was sponsored by Charles E. Wescott Post 173 American Legion, Bath, NY.  At their first meeting on March 6th, 2012, they had an outstanding 25 members join the brand new chapter!
Currently, they have over 80 members and are still growing. Last Saturday, June 15th, they held their First Annual Legacy Scholarship Fund Poker Run/Pork Roast.
The Legacy Scholarship Fund is a national fundraiser by American Legion Riders and raises an average of around $750,000 each year to provide scholarships to children of deceased veterans who served overseas since September 11, 2001,
May 10 this year, three New York State recipients were awarded a total of $49,980, one in Walden, and two in Naples.
Bath ALR 173 chose this fundraiser for their annual project and had a great turnout, serving over 90 dinners to participating riders, after they returned from riding  from Bath Legion to other legions in Dundee, Geneva and Horseheads. Businesses from all over a 65 miles radius donated almost $2000 for door prizes to give away and raffle.
Bath ALR 173  also participates in several benefit rides for veterans and the Bath VA each year, along with Memorial Day Parades, and promoting motorcycle safety, with the MSF Group Riding Safety Course they sponsored in March this year.
Along with all of this, many of Bath ALR members are also Patriot Guard Riders and have helped escort the cremains of Veterans from Rochester & Buffalo areas to Bath National Cemetery for proper Military Honors Burial Services, as well as escorting several individual veterans, and standing flaglines. This national program is the Veteran Recovery Program.
All motorcycle enthusiasts are welcome to attend the monthly meetings on the first Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Bath American Legion, as well as ride with the members to their events this summer. For more information come to our meetings.
