  • Fewer than three dozen Greenwood Central alumni wistfully sang their alma mater Saturday afternoon about 100 yards from the school that graduated hundreds of students since 1937.
The facility they celebrated in song and recollections closed two weeks ago, probably forever, victim of toxic finances from a long-term shrinking area economy and four years of crippling cuts in state education aid.
The merger with Canisteo Central School eight years ago was unable to create sufficient fiscal efficiencies to preserve the former hub of Greenwood family lives.
