Corning Community College is pleased to announce that Sky Moss, Assistant Professor, History & Government, has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The nominee must have five years of full-time teaching experience at Corning Community College and show undisputed excellence in all five of the criteria areas: Teaching Performance, Scholarship and Professional Growth, Student Services, Academic Standards and Requirements for Student Performance, and Curriculum Development and Instructional Improvement.
Moss joined the College in 1999 and quickly became known  for his outstanding teaching performance by motivating and inspiring students beyond their expectations, consistently earning near perfect 5.0 on student evaluations, displaying the highest retention rate in the Division, exciting students about history and its modern relevance, and developing rapport and respect between students and teacher.
He possesses a keen interest in history and routinely researches information on an array of topics from books, articles, and newspapers. and served as the Keynote speaker at Phi Theta Kappa regional convention.
Studenst often report Moss is generous with personal time, accessibility, and concern for the intellectual growth of students; intuitively understands the need to appreciate students in a holistic manner, understanding the many variables that influence student success and assists them in navigating through them; and maintains an open door for student appointments looking for his guidance and intellectual expertise.
Moss is an instructor who is committed to his students and the College.
