  • New launching fees from Champlin Beach in the Town of Urbana could be in place by this summer.
The Town board is considering the launch recommendations of the Town’s Parks Advisory Committee, which include new charges for use by guests, visitors and businesses.
Committee Chairman and Town Councilman John Jensen told the Town board the advisory group’s tentative fee schedule is:
Resident/seasonal resident – personal boat, one pass: $25.
Resident and one guest pass: $40.
    “Non-resident”/Visitor –one pass: $40.
Commercial – based on expected use: $150-$300.
Jensen told the board the committee has reviewed other towns’ launch fees, and found Urbana’s current charges are lower than most.
In addition, the current practice of allowing cardholders to launch other people’s boats adds to the congestion of the launch area and reduces revenues, Jensen said.
The committee said the fees would pay for improved security and future improvements to the beach area, Jensen said.
The town board is expected to vote on the fees when it meets in February.
