BATH - Three Steuben County deputies were honored Monday for saving the life of an Erwin woman.

Deputies David Updyke and Brooke Payne responded within minutes to a report of an unconscious, unresponsive person at 12:16 a.m. July 3 in the Town of Erwin, Sheriff David Cole told the Legislature's Public Safety and Corrections Committee.

Updyke and Payne realized the woman was suffering from an opioid overdose and administered Naloxone, with Sgt. Shawn Shutt assisting and continuing the appropriate treatment, Cole said.

Cole noted both Payne and Updyke were on overtime duty, and Shutt was supervising a DWI patrol in the Corning area.
