The Wineglass Marathon has donated nearly $60,000 to more than 40 local nonprofits in 2016, the marathon announced Wednesday.

“This is one of the really rewarding aspects of the Wineglass for the team,” Wineglass Director Sheila Sutton said. “To thank all the groups that help us achieve our mission by donating proceeds of the race to help them achieve their mission.”

Various local organizations received a portion of the donated proceeds. This includes the Red Cross, the Corning and Bath Rotaries, Corning Christian Academy, Girls on the Run, and a variety of local scholastic sports teams, among others.

In addition, the marathon awarded scholarships to one female and one male from the three school districts along the marathon route: Bath-Haverling, Campbell-Savona, and Corning-Painted Post.

The marathon said that in 2017, that scholarship amount will increase to $1,000.

Thousands of runners and volunteers descended on the Corning area to take part in the 2016 Wineglass Marathon. The marathon will conduct its 36th annual race in 2017.
