ADDISON - One person is dead and another injured following an accident involving a snowmobile and a van in the Town of Tuscarora Monday afternoon, according to New York State Police.
State police said snowmobile passenger BillieJo Mcilwain-Gee died as a result of the accident. Her husband, David A. Gee, who was operating the machine, was airlifted to Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, Pa via a LifeNet helicopter.
According to state police, the snowmobile was traveling north on private property in Tuscarora at approximately 4:23 p.m. Monday afternoon when Gee entered State Route 417.
According to state police, a Chevrolet Astro Van operated by Milessa F. Reese was traveling westbound on State Route 417 when the snowmobile entered the roadway and struck her vehicle.
BillieJo Mcilwain-Gee was taken to Corning Guthrie Hospital via AMR Ambulance, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, neither occupants of the snowmobile were wearing helmets. The Reconstruction Unit also stated that failure to yield the right of way before entering a roadway is a factor it is investigating.
State Police were assisted by the Addison Police Department, Addison Fire Department, Tuscarora Fire Department, Woodhull Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, the Steuben County 911 Center.
