CORNING - Work on Guthrie Corning Hospital’s 60,000 square foot expansion on the east side of the hospital campus is coming along on schedule, and hospital officials said they expect the building to open and begin serving patients early this summer.

“What we’re anticipating is to have the new building open in the beginning of June,” said Tom Collins, Vice President of Regional Operations for Guthrie Medical Group.

The expansion will offer healthcare services across eight specialties: orthopedics, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, ENT, OBGYN, general surgery, and urology. Guthrie said the new facility will employ approximately 25-30 medical personnel, and is estimated to provide approximately 65,000 visits per year.

Collins said the new building will provide greater convenience for patients by expanding and situating core healthcare services closer to the hospital site.

“I think it’s going to provide great coordination for our patients, particularly those with surgical service needs, that they’ll be in close proximity from the medical office building over to Corning,” said Collins. “(This will) create an easier path for our patients that have to go back and forth between their medical office visit and for surgical services, and create an opportunity for our providers to be closer to the hospital.”

The new building will be connected to the main hospital site via an indoor physical corridor. The 60,000 square foot building is two stories tall with a 30,000 square-foot footprint.
