PAINTED POST - A car traveling westbound on State Route 417 failed to negotiate a turn, drifted across the road and slammed into an oncoming Addison Central School Bus at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, killing the driver of the car.

Canandaigua State Police Lieutenant David R. Stebbins said the driver and 10 students traveling on the school bus, and two children in the passenger vehicle, were not injured.

“There we no injuries to the school bus driver, the 10 children on the bus or the two kids in the car,” Stebbins said. “They were all checked out (at the scene) by AMR ambulance and transported to the Guthrie Corning Hospital.”

The Addison School District students and the two children traveling in the car have been released from the hospital to family members, Stebbins said. The collision caused extensive damage to the front end sections of the car and bus.

The school bus driver was not in fault for the crash, Stebbins said. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stebbins said the accident is still under investigation.

The name of the driver of the car who was killed in the accident will not be released until family members are notified.
