HORSEHEADS - Employees of Navient and its subsidiary, Pioneer Credit Recovery in Horseheads, donated $20,533 Tuesday to the American Cancer Society.
American Cancer Society Community Development Manager Kristina Albrecht said the money will go toward the organization’s overall efforts and programs throughout the Southern Tier region.
“Since this would be credited specifically to the Southern Tier event category, it would then cycle through to help our programs and services,” she said. “We do have a road to recovery program locally, [which] most of our efforts are going toward, that provides free rides to cancer patients to and from their treatment.
“It just helps keep driving the mission on a more local level.”
Navient Horseheads senior manager Patrick Pepples said the organization raises money on a quarterly basis for different charities. He said April through June, Navient raises money for the American Cancer Society.
Much of the money was raised through a company golf tournament held June 21 at the Bath Country Club.
Navient, based in Delaware, is a major U.S. lending corporation, specializing in servicing student loans.
