The Ontario County Humane Society is overflowing with donated goods for the 85 terrier dogs seized from a Naples home.

Since the early August rescue of what is being called the Naples 85, “the outpouring of community support has the Ontario County Humane Society bursting at the seams,” stated the humane society, which is caring for the dogs at its Happy Tails Animal Shelter in Hopewell.

Monetary donations over the weekend had reached $53,270 of a $125,000 goal to fund the care of the Naples 85.

Along with reaching its fundraising goal, the humane society needs more storage space.

Dozens more dog lovers lined up outside the shelter Saturday with more food and supplies than it has capacity to store. They ask that anyone locally who has climate-controlled space — such as a pod, barn, cattle trailer, or the like — to temporarily donate it to the shelter to stockpile goods until the shelter can free up space.

In an update Monday, the Humane Society reported that several people had offered space to store the tangible donations of supplies of food, treats, and toys. The Ontario County Humane Society is asking those with available storage space to send a direct message on Facebook.

All 85 dogs have been examined by a veterinarian and continue to slowly heal from treatments for fleas, allergies, and parasites. The Humane Society calculates it will cost $125,000 for three months to continue treating the 85 dogs. This is an ongoing legal matter and the dogs cannot be released for adoption until deemed by the court, which could take up to eight months. The next court date is set for Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Naples Town Court.

Adoption and foster care for the dogs is the next phase in the process. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering can complete an application online.

The other way to help immediately is for people to adopt the other animals in the shelter to make room for the “Naples 85.”
