CORNING - A Corning man was arrested Friday after he crashed a stolen pickup truck on River Road.
Joseph P. Heverly, 49, of Corning was seen at about 9:20 a.m. by a city patrolman on Park Avenue allegedly driving a stolen Ford F-150 truck, police said. Heverly then attempted to flee the scene but moments later crashed the truck on River Road, according to reports.
Police said Heverly was arrested on an active bench warrant for third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for allegedly stealing the truck from East Second Street.
“An officer saw Heverly driving the vehicle on Park Avenue in the city,” said Corning Police Sgt. Kenzie Spaulding. “He goes to stop the vehicle and Heverly takes off on Park Avenue to River Road and moments later crashed on River Road flipping the truck over twice.”
Heverly, who was scheduled to appear Friday morning in Steuben County Centralized Arraignment Court, instead was taken by ambulance from the scene to the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre Pa., to be treated for any injuries.
Spaulding said Heverly will face additional charges. He was recently arrested in Chemung County Court Aug. 22, for unpaid restitution.
Heverly will be scheduled to appear in Steuben County Centralized Arraignment Court at a later date.
