CORNING - Paving will begin today on the Interstate Highway 86 bridge, over State Route 415 in Riverside, weather permitted, likely causing minor traffic delays, according to the state Department of Transportation.

For the duration of this paving operation, expected to take one day to complete, traffic will be reduced to one lane and Exit 44B off ramp to Painted Post and Gang Mills will be closed, according to the DOT. Variable message boards will notify traffic to take alternate routes.

Officials said it is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter.

The state DOT recently unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of driving responsibly in work zones, officials said. The video highlights the importance of paying attention in work zones and obeying New York State’s “Move Over” laws.

Officials said motorists are urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, DOT officials said. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s drivers license.
