BATH - Avoca used a strong third quarter and withstood a late Prattsburgh run to capture its second-straight Steuben County League Tournament title Wednesday with a 67-64 victory.


With Prattsburgh up 30-22 after the first half, Avoca came out with a 13-0 run and outscored the Vikings 25-11 in the quarter for a 47-41 advantage heading into the final frame.


Avoca extended its lead to as many as 11 in the final frame with five minutes following two 3-pointers from Brady Brandow.


Mason Putnam netted 21 of his 38 total points in the fourth quarter, helping pull the Vikings to within just three points at 64-61 with 7.8 remaining, but the Tigers were able to hold on.


Johnanthan Jensen led Avoca with 21 points and Brandow contributed 14 points.


Avoca improves to 5-0 against Prattsburgh all-time in Steuben County League title games.


No. 3 Bradford 56, No. 5 Jasper-Troupsburg 52 (OT)


BATH - Third-seeded Bradford edged No.5 Jasper-Troupsburg 56-52 Wednesday in the third-place game of the Steuben County Tournament.


Seems like whenever we play Jasper-Troupsburg 32 minutes of regulation is never enough,“ Bradford head coach Mark LaBarr said. ”Sixth overtime game against them in three seasons. Both teams played real hard so give Tom Price and his team a lot of credit.


Jordan Sturyk netted a reverse fast-break layup with 34.9 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory for the Braves.


“Jordan Sutryk put our team on his back tonight in the last 2 minutes to secure the win,” said LaBarr. “Good win for us going in to sectionals next week.”


Sutryk had a team-high 24 points including eight points in the fourth quarter and overtime.


Blai Crespo had 15 points for the Braves.


The Wildcats had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation with 15 seconds left and the score tied at 48, but were unable to get a shot off as time expired in the possession.


Jasper-Troupsburg turned a 24-17 halftime point deficit, outscoring Bradford 31-24 in the second half to force overtime.


Brayden Hill led the Wildcats with 14 points, Tyler Flint had 12 points and Josh Flint contributed 10 points.
