ELMIRA - Elmira’s Devin Dennard earned 12th team large school all-state honors as reflected in the recently released New York State Sportswriters Association state teams.
“He is one of the finest young men to come out of our program, regardless of stats and awards,” Elmira head coach Ryan Johnson said. “Devin is a quality young man and his character speaks volumes about what a well rounded student-athlete he is. I’m very proud of him and so happy for his success. It was earned and well deserved!”
Dennard, a senior, was the main attraction for the Express averaging 21.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
“Devin was our Mr. Everything,” Johnson said. “We ran everything through him and asked him to be a multi-faceted player on both ends of the floor.”
Dennard finishes his illustrious career with the Express with accolades including: BCANY AA Player of the Year, BCANY All-Section 4 team, All Conference, Elite 10 team, All-Region team, Stars and Stripes All-Star, and Kiwanis Male Winter Athlete of the Year.
In addition to his scoring prowess, Dennard was often relied upon on the defensive side of the ball.
"He was asked to guard the best player on the other team every night,“ said Johnson.
Elmira went 7-11 during the regular season, missing qualifying for the playoffs by just one game.
