Leon Clesson Cook, age 97, of Bolivia, NC passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his home.

Leon Clesson Cook, age 97, of Bolivia, NC passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his home. 

Mr. Cook was born in Sangerfield, NY on the eighth of June, 1919 to the late Leon and Lena Thompson Cook. He was gifted as an athlete and after high school went to college on an athletic
scholarship.   

Clesson began his lengthy teaching career as a science teacher in Lowville, NY. From there the family moved to Bath, NY, where he worked as a guidance counselor for many years.   

He stayed active as a soccer referee until he was in his eighties and was an accomplished golfer into his early nineties. He was also well known for his antique collecting and refurbishing, and his spectacular wood carvings. 

Clesson was a steadfast husband, father, and caregiver to his wife of sixty five years, Margaret Chase Cook who passed away in 2007. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son, Larry D. Cook. 

Mr. Cook was an US Army Air Corps veteran and served during WWII. 

Survivors include his son, Gary Cook; two daughters, Donna Kinard, and Marcia Marano.  He has 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.  

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday the tenth of June, 2017 in the Faith Community Church, Bolivia, NC. 

In lieu of customary remembrances the family request with gratitude that monetary donations be made in his name to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice “Brunswick House” at 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
