It is with great sadness that the family of Dolores Preston Magee announces her passing on April 30th, 2018.

Dolores (Dorrie) was born on December 20, 1930 in an upstairs apartment in Erie, PA, to Paul Vernon and Frances Boyd Preston. Her brother, Vern, had wanted 2 things for Christmas, a red wagon and a sister. He got both. She attended a 1 room schoolhouse for years and after graduating high school went to Hamot Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her RN Diploma.

Nursing was her profession for over 30 years. She continued her education with Roswell Park School of Enterostomal Therapy in 1982. Dorrie also received the American Cancer Society “Voice of Hope” in 1980. It was during nursing school that she met the love of her life and best friend, Robert Lee Magee. This August, they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Bob and Dorrie worked hard and provided the family a beautiful life in Hammondsport, NY. They traveled together summers, spent countless hours at beautiful Keuka Lake, boating, fishing, swimming, and in the winters skiing, hunting, tobogganing, sledding and ice fishing. Their love for traveling continued after they both retired. They spent 23 years on the road with a travel trailer marking their map with every stop they ever made (nearly every state in the union) and making life long friendships all along the way. They were also fortunate to visit Alaska, Canada and Mexico.

Dorrie is survived by her husband, Robert; 3 children: son Robert Vernon; son David Preston (Tonya); and daughter Shelley Arizmendi (Carlos). She will forever be remembered by her 3 grandchildren: Dennae, Casey and Paige; 5 great grandchildren, and numerous family members. Dorrie’s laughter carried into her final days and she will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SmileTrain.
