AVOCA – Phyllis A. (Warner) Mattoon, 87, of Avoca, passed away on Friday (Nov. 22, 2019) at Steuben Heath Centers in Bath after a brief illness.

AVOCA – Phyllis A. (Warner) Mattoon, 87, of Avoca, passed away on Friday (Nov. 22, 2019) at Steuben Heath Centers in Bath after a brief illness.

She was born March 4, 1932, a daughter of Charles and Laura (Smalt) Warner.

Phyllis was retired from Arnold and Benton Insurance Agency where she worked nearly 47 years. She loved Avoca and served on the board of the Avoca Library and the Historical Society. Phyllis helped form the Avoca Golf Tournament and helped organize it for 40 years. Phyllis was a member of the Avoca Methodist Church, the Avoca American Legion War Dads and a former member of the Eastern Star. People still talk about her homemade Christmas cards and her homemade raspberry and apple pies.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, David (Paulette), Lance (Joyce) and Brian Mattoon. She had three granddaughters, Angela Mattoon, Erika (Colin) Wright, and Michelle (Brian) Charlton; one grandson, Robert (Anna) DeVaul; two great-grandsons, Carter (Erika) and Logan (Michelle).

Phyllis was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years Harold, her sister, Lois (Jim) Hall and her brother, Don (Yvonne) Warner.

Calling hours were held Tuesday (Nov. 26, 2019) from 3-6 p.m. at the Avoca Methodist Church with service to follow. There was a celebration of her life at the Avoca Legion directly after
the service.

Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.

Phyllis’s family is asking in lieu of flowers for donations to the Avoca Library or Historical Society.
