Sophie Catharine Dixson
Bath - Sophie Catharine Dixson of Bath, NY, and formerly of Morris, went home to her Lord and Savior on December 25, 2020. She was born on October 20, 1939 in New York City, a daughter of the late Valentine and Susan (Kubini) Pochy. On June 13, 1959 she married Perry Lee Dixson at the Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church. Together, they had a beloved marriage of 57 years until his passing in 2016.
Sophie taught kindergarten for many years at Morris Central School until her retirement in 1996. She was an active member of the Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church as Sunday School Superintendent and serving on the session. In her retirement she enjoyed 15 years of winters in Florida and Arizona and going on cruises throughout the Caribbean with Perry. When home, she played the harmonica as part of Randy Palada's "Harptones" for various events and elder homes in and around Gilbertsville. "Mom" was known for her ability to tell it like it is, dancing with anyone or anything at any time.
She is the much loved mother of Jacqueline Lee Stonier, of Bath and Neal James Dixson(Pam) of Ilion; grandmother to Shayne Perry Stonier of Rochester and Kayleigh Lynn Stonier of Bath. Also surviving is her brother, James (Susan) Pochy. Sophie was predeceased by her husband and parents.
Her family would like to thank the staff at the Hampshire House in Oneonta and the Taylor Health Center in Bath for taking good care of her the last four years of her life. She lived life on her own terms, was truly loved and will be missed by many.

The immediate family will gather at the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home on Saturday, January 2, 2021 for a private hour of bereavement. A public graveside service will be held in the spring of 2021 followed by a gathering at 200 Pochy Road, Maple Grove for family and friends to safely visit and share stories.
