He was 75 years of age. Ralph was born to Richard and Rose Hamilton in Cohocton, New York in the spring of 1945. Growing up in a large family, Ralph was one of seven children. He enjoyed the outdoors and wrestling as a child and young man. After high school Ralph had a strong calling to duty where he served in both the Marine Corps and the Army faithfully, most notably during the Vietnam war. Ralph enlisted in the Marines in 1964, six days after his 19th birthday, and served two tours in Vietnam as a Communications Specialist. In 1968, at the end of his four year enlistment, he was honorably discharged. While in the Marines he received the following commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the Good Conduct Medal. He remained in the Marine Corps Inactive Reserve for two years after his discharge from service. He enlisted in the Army in 1974. He served six years as a Communication Specialist, rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1982. While in the Army, he received the following commendations: Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (second award), two Overseas Service Bars and the M16 Expert Badge. After his time in services concluded he went on to have a fulfilling career working close to 30 years for AT&T.
