Robert Shuart

Hammondsport - Robert B. Shuart, 86 of Hammondsport and Bath passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2021.

He was born in Avoca, NY on September 21, 1934, the son of the late Chandos and Florence Litteer Shuart. He graduated from Hammondsport High School and Alfred State College where he met his wife, Patricia Staley. The couple were married in Tonawanda, NY and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary May 2020.

Bob is survived by his wife Patricia, son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Rebecca Shuart of Bath, NY, his daughter-in-law, Tina Shuart of Bath, NY; grandchildren Madison and Alexander Shuart, Bailey Walker, Shane and Cruz Shuart; great grandchildren, Arianna, Bryson, and Cadence Shuart.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael Shuart, sister, Jane ( Preston) Hill, brother, Andrew (Jean) Shuart, and twin brother Richard (Nancy) Shuart, sister, Elinor (Joseph) Jones. He leaves 3 generations of nieces and nephews in the Shuart Family.

Music and singing was a part of the Shuart Family. Bob sang at many special occasions in the area and was a part of various musical groups including, Dad and Lads, with his father, Chandos, twin brother Richard, & brother- in- law Preston Hill, The Melody Boys – Robert and Richard Shuart, Charles Potter and Ed Simonson. "Two Hits and a Miss"-a singing trio with his twin brother Richard and sister, Elinor, the Barbershoppers, The "Ad-Libs", Alfred State Tech Concert Choir, and the Keuka Blend, a quartet from The First Presbyterian Church of Bath.

Bob worked for The Bath National Bank for 36 years. He started his career as a teller, and worked his way up to become Vice President, a position he held until his retirement. It was stated at his retirement that "Bob Shuart has become an institution at this bank. "

In his retirement, he enjoyed working on his apartment houses, following the stock market, going to his home in Florida for the winter months, and spending time with his family.

He was President of the Steuben County Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and of Steuben County Bankers, and has taught various college credit AIB courses.

In the community, he has served as treasurer of the Keuka Lake Association, charter member of the Bath Ambulance Corp., a member of the Bath Village Planning and Zoning Board, Bath Village Ethics Committee, the Humane Society and the Jaycees.

Bob was a life member of the Bath Elks B.P.O.E. 1547, member of the Hammondsport American Legion, The Bostwick Club, former Vice-President of the Hammondsport Alumni Association, and former member of the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Urbana.

A 60 year member of The Bath First Presbyterian Church, he served on Session and chairman of The Board of Trustees and as a member of the Finance and Investment Committee.

Bob had a passion for his cars, in particular, his 1931 Chevy that he drove in local parades. He loved dogs, boating and his home on Keuka Lake.

Bob carried a big smile and genuinely enjoyed people.

A Combined Memorial Service for Bob and his sister Elinor Jones will be held at The First Presbyterian Church, Bath NY on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Calling hours 9:30-11:.00 a.m. Memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Memorials in his honor may be given to the Music Fund, The First Presbyterian Church, 6 East Morris St., Bath, NY 14810
