Elinor Jones

Elmira - Elinor L. Jones, age 90, passed away on Sunday, January 10,2021 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.

Elinor was born on April 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Chandos and Florence Litteer Shuart. She graduated from Hammondsport High School.

Elinor was survived by her brother Robert (Patricia) Shuart who passed away two weeks later on January 31,2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jones, sister, Jane ( Preston) Hill, brother, Andrew (Jean) Shuart, and brother Richard (Nancy) Shuart. She leaves 3 generations of nieces and nephews in the Shuart Family.

Elinor worked in the Steuben County Clerk's office, clerk for several area judges, the Bath VA Center and as secretary for Robert Wightman, Attorney at Law in Bath.

She and her husband owned and operated the Jones Funeral Home in Bath, NY and later the Jones Memorials in Waterloo.

Elinor enjoyed singing during her high school years and continued entertaining area groups "Two Hits and a Miss" – a singing trio with her twin brothers, Robert and Richard Shuart.

Elinor was a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star –Unity Chapter 866, Bath NY.

She was Matron of Bath Star Chapter in 1962 and secretary of the local chapter for many years. She held the NY State offices of Associate Grand Marshal 1964, Chairman of Necrology 1966 and Commissioner of Appeals NY West 2002-2003.

Elinor enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading and puzzles. She enjoyed Girls Club, a group of high school friends who have been getting together monthly for years.

A 60 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bath, Elinor was a member of the choir and served on the Board of Deacons.

A Combined Memorial Service for Elinor and her brother, Robert Shuart, will be held at The First Presbyterian Church, Bath NY on Saturday, July 10, 2021; Calling hours 9:30-11:00 a.m, Memorial Service 11:30. Memorials may be given in her name to the Deacons Fund of The First Presbyterian Church, 6 East Morris St., Bath NY 14810.

Arrangements are being handled by Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath.
