Lionel Ackerson, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021. He was at home with Chun, his wife of 53 years, by his side. Lionel was born October 31, 1946 in Bath, NY to Virginia (Hoagland) and Lawrence Ackerson.
He was a member of the Haverling High School graduating class of 1964. Shortly after graduation, he moved to California and began his career with the US Postal Service. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and was stationed in Korea, where he met his future wife. He and Chun were married on May 27, 1968. Lionel and Chun returned to California where he resumed his career with the USPS for the next 36 years, until retirement. He lived life to the fullest and loved traveling, bike riding, bowling, working in the garden, going to the gym, and spending time with his wife.
Lionel is survived by his wife, Chun Ackerson, of Clovis, CA; brother, David Ackerson, of Avoca, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Virginia (Hoagland) Ackerson, of Kanona, NY; brother, Franklin Ackerson, of Shingletown, CA; brother, Terry Ackerson, of Kanona, NY; and sister, Virginia (Ginny K) House, of Avoca, NY.
Lionel was laid to rest with an intimate ceremony at the Northern California Veterans' Cemetery at 11800 Gas Point Road, Igo, CA 96047 with military honors, near his brother Franklin, on July 30, 2021.
