Avoca - Marta Brinkhus, age 63, of Avoca, NY, entered into eternal rest on August 23, 2021. She passed away at home, surrounded by her family, after a 2-year battle with cancer.

Marta was born on August 23, 1958 in Albuquerque, NM to Richard & Virginia Larson. Marta grew up in Del Norte, CO. She attended college at University of Northern Colorado – Greeley and earned a BA in Special Education.

In December 1983, while working as a clerk at the Monte Villa Inn in Monte Vista, Colorado, Marta met her future husband Brian, who was on a business trip for Haines Equipment. They married in January of 1984 and began their life together in Brian's home town of Avoca, NY. They had 4 children together, ran a small potato farm, and had a greenhouse for several years, which Marta greatly enjoyed. She worked at Avoca Village Sales for 25 years and at Bath Plumbing and Hardware for 9 years. She also acted as an Election Inspector and as Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Wheeler for several years.

Marta was known for her friendly, helpful and easy-going manner. She leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, service, hard-work and dedication to her family, friends, employers and community. She will be forever treasured in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Marta is survived by Brian, her husband of 37 years; 2 children: Halley (John) Perno, and Clayton Brinkhus and his girlfriend, Amber Loucks; 2 grandchildren; siblings: Beth (Rick) Stremel, Jennifer Knoblauch, and Erik Larson; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents: Richard Larson and Virginia and Harold McCaulley; and 2 children: Hannah and Mason. The family will have a private service; a celebration of life will be held at a later date with family and friends.

The family would like to thank CareFirst NY (hospice) for their support. Thank you also to everyone who prayed, called, stopped by for a visit, made meals or sent cards, both while Marta was alive and after she passed. Marta was truly thankful for the care, concern, support and friendship and so is her family.
