Barbara J. Leach

Barbara J. Leach

Barbara J. Leach went home to be with her Savior on February 3, 2022. She went peacefully, in her sleep, after spending her last moments surrounded by her daughters. Barb was born on an undisclosed day in 1952 in Bath, NY. She graduated from Haverling Central School, and then SUNY Cortland before becoming a teacher at Prattsburgh Central School for 32 years. Ms. Leach is remembered fondly by all those she worked with and taught.

Anyone who crossed paths with Barb couldn't help but benefit from and notice her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, unique sense of humor, and God's love shining through her. Barb was an avid reader, and never went anywhere without a book. Barb had a lifelong love for horses which she passed on to her eldest daughter. She was a paragon of selfless love. She lived out her faith in love by helping anyone anywhere she saw a need. Angel Tree, the Finger Lakes SPCA, Sunday Suppers, Family Table, the Summer Lunch Program, Angel Food, and First Friday Fellowship were just a few of the community ministries with which Barb served. She wore many hats in the community and in her various roles at the First Presbyterian Church of Bath, but much that she did went unrecognized as Barb always preferred to work behind the scenes. Of all that she did, the job she did best and treasured most was raising her three daughters as a single parent.

Barb took great joy in taking her kids, nephews, and "bonus kids" on family vacations throughout the years. Her favorite place in the world was a small island off the South Carolina Coast where she enjoyed many family vacations and fond memories from Sea turtle searches at night to Jellyfish stings to alligator sightings.

Barb was predeceased by her father George 'Bob' Leach, Brother-in-law, Thormod 'Tom' Hansen, and nephew Bobby Leach.

Barb is survived by her siblings, Bill (Judy) Leach and Robyn Hansen; her three daughters Alison (Patrick) Zimmerman, Danielle (Jonathan) Snyder, and Laura Hapeman and several "bonus daughters" who she loved like her own. She is also survived by her dear nephews and niece Brian (Cate) Robson and their children, Patrick Robson, Michael Leach (Kim DeMara), and Kimberley Griffin and her children.

Her memorial service will be held on February 26th, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bath, NY at 11:00 AM. Barb's request was that her memorial service be filled with life and laughter. The family asks that if you choose to attend, please come dressed in bright colors, with a fond memory to share.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barb Leach's name To the Finger Lakes SPCA or the Sea Turtle Preservation Society.

Arrangements are being handled by Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath.
