CORNING — Herkimer Community College narrowly got past Corning Community College by a score of 4-3 on Sunday.

Walter Medina and Randolph Baker netted two first half goals for the second ranked team in NJCAA soccer, which put Corning in a 2-0 halftime hole.

“We made a few mistakes and they punished us,” said Corning head coach Adam Robinson.

The Red Barons fought back in the second half, starting with a through pass from Rocco Coulibaly to Mbemba Sano who chipped the ball over the oncoming keeper in the 52nd minute.

Two minutes later, Coulibaly was the beneficiary after he slipped by two defenders on Walker Moss pass and netted the equalizer at 2-2.

The Generals responded with a goal from Luke Murphy on an assist from David Ramjee five minutes later.

With only 12 minutes to go Rocco Coulibaly again found the net off a pass from Junior Coulibaly to tie the score again for the Red Barons at three.

The game remained 3-3 until the Generals were award a penalty kick in the 86th minute, which Murphy netted for the winner.

“It was an amazing performance from the guys, they put together a great performance for 90 minutes,” Robinson said. “It wasn’t the result the we wanted but it shows the potential we do have with this group moving forward.”

Corning will travel to Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in its next matchup.
