ELMIRA — Cardinal O’Hara forced 39 turnovers on its way to a 61-24 win over Corning in the girls division quarter finals of the Josh Palmer Tournament on Wednesday.

Cardinal O’Hara got off to a quick 15-4 start in the first quarter including two different runs of 5-0 and 7-0.

Kenna Newman netted four points in the first quarter for Corning.

C-O went on a 5-0 run to start the second quarter, but Corning responded cutting the lead to 20-11 with its own run with four points from Newman and a basket from Alexis Easling.

Cierra Harrison posted a layup and Kiara Johnson made two shots for Cardinal O’Hara to extend its lead to 26-11 and a 28-13 lead at the half.

Cardinal O’Hara outscored the Hawks 33-11 in the second half for the victory.

Newman had 10 points for Corning and Harrison led Cardinal O’Hara with 23 points while Johnson added 11 points.

“We are continuing to work on the fundamentals like passing and handling the ball,” Corning head coach Mike Johnston said. “We are a work in progress looking for daily improvement.”

Bishop Kearney 59, Horseheads 38

ELMIRA — Bishop Kearney used a strong second half to top Horseheads 59-38 on Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders and Bishop Kearney traded baskets throughout the first half, with neither team gaining more than a three point advantage for a 21-21 score.

Jillian Casey had eight points in the first half to lead the Blue Raiders and Jenna Granger added five points.

After halftime, Bishop Kearney outscored Horseheads 38-17 including 23-7 in the third quarter.

Allure Simmons had 27 points, with 22 coming in the second half for Bishop Kearney and Saniaa Wilson had 11 points.

Elmira 84, Elmira Notre Dame 30

ELMIRA — Elmira ran past Elmira Notre Dame by a score of 84-30 on Wednesday.

The Express outscored the Crusaders 54-7 in the first half.

Kiara Fisher had 20 points to lead Elmira, Lexi Boorse had 18 points and Zaria Demember-Shazier added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Elmira forced 18 turnovers in the contest.

Seton Catholic 80, Hornell 42

ELMIRA — Ston Catholic had four players in double figures as it got past Hornell by a score of 80-42.

The Saints outscored the Red Raiders 49-24 in the first half and never looked back.

Hanna Strawn had 16 points to lead the Saints while Julia Hauer posted 13 points and both Ava McCann and Reese Vaughan added 10 points.

Abby Austin led the Red Raiders with 12 points and Leah Harkenrider chipped in 10 points.

Seton Catholic hit nine 3-pointers as a team.

Boys Regional Division I Semifinal

Edison 63, Troy 57

ELMIRA - Edison got past Troy 63-57 in the first round of the Josh Palmer boys tournament on Wednesday.

Nate Chomey had 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Spartans while Jack Shaw chipped in 11 points.

Seldon Richards posted 22 points for Troy and Clark Jackson contributed 18 points.

Edison outscored Troy 29-27 in the first half and 34-31 in the second half.

Newfield 52, Susquehanna Valley 49

ELMIRA - Newfield edged Susquehanna Valley 52-49 in the first round of the Josh Palmer Tournament on Wednesday.

After a close first half saw Susquehanna Valley take a 25-24 lead, Newfield outscored Susquehanna 21-13 in the third quarter.

The Sabres responded with a 11-7 fourth quarter, but the Trojans forced two turnovers down the stretch to maintain their three point advantage.

Quintel Clemens had 14 points and nine rebounds, Greg Moravec added 11 points and LaRon Boykin chipped in 10 points.

For Susquehanna Valley, Jordan McGahy had 14 points and seven rebounds and Jarred Freijie recorded 13 points and five rebounds.
