WAVERLY - The Corning Hawks boys bowling team finished first overall in the big school division on Friday at Valley Bowling Center and will now head to the State Championships.

Corning had a total of 8,259 pins followed by Union-Endicott (7,933) and Elmira (7,749).

Derik Lisi had games of 226, 157, 257, 185, 172, and 177 plus 652 from sectionals for a second overall individual finish.

Michael Hoffman-Bellucci was second highest for the hawks with games of 158, 169, 244, 232, 186 and 171 (1,160), Tanner Kizis had games of 231 and a 194 and Hunter Crouch shot a 201 and a 203.

With the win, the Hawks team qualifies for their third trip to States in eight years.

"I couldn't be any more proud of a group of kids," Corning head coach Eric Kizis said. "They had a very slow start to the season as we only had two Varsity returners from last year. They have just seemed to gel well and support one another through all of the ups and downs. For a team to finish the way this group has with a sectional title and a trip to represent Section IV in States is truly amazing."

The Hawks will compete in the State Tournament March 11th at 9 a.m. at the OnCenter in Syracuse, N.Y.
