CANASERAGA — Canaseraga Central junior Ryan Reynolds has been named a member of the 2018-19 New York State Public High School Athletic Association NYSPHSAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
The 14 new committee members will serve with the eight returning members who served as juniors last year.
The committee is comprised of two student-athlete representatives (one male and one female) from each of the 11 sections in New York State.
Reynolds and Payton Powers from Dalton-Nunda High School (Keshequa) represent Section V.
A total of 61 student-athletes applied to be members of this year’s SAAC.
SAAC was developed to encourage and facilitate involvements of student athletes in NYSPHSAA. During the school year, committee members will discuss topics of concern and develop ways to address those concerns to help student-athletes maintain positive athletic experiences.
A primary SAAC goal this year will be to create a mental health initiative to help student-athletes across the state who confront mental health issues.
SAAC members also hope to expand and create student committees within their own sections.
“In the three years since the SAAC was formed we have seen tremendous results from the student leaders selected to serve,” said Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA executive director.
The SAAC will meet via teleconference four times during the school year. They will also collaborate in person at the SAAC Summit held in Syracuse in November.
