CORNING - Corning sent the fans home happy as it got past Vestal by a score of 3-1 in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference volleyball matchup Tuesday in Corning.

"We’re very lucky, it's nice to have a cheering section like that," Corning head coach Irene Furness said. "The fans really helped us out, they are awesome. It was nice to open up with a home win."

The Hawks won by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-19.

Down 13-4 in the fourth game, the Hawks rallied back, outscoring the Golden Bears 21-8 down the stretch.

"The girls didn't want to have to go to a game five and they played their hearts out," said Furness. "We got help of the bench and things went on a roll from there."
