HORSEHEADS - Multiple local golfers qualified for the state tournament at the Section IV Golf Championships held at Soaring Eagles Golf Course in Horseheads Tuesday.

The top nine finishers qualified for the state tournament.

Two golfers from Corning qualified for states for the first time in the program's history. Lucia Chen finished fourth overall with a score of 88 through 18 holes and Hannah Masaki finished ninth with a total of 105.

"It was very impressive, these girls have worked very hard." Corning head coach Jami Smith said. "They have the desire, they want to do well and have the passion for golf."

As a team, the Hawks finished third with a team score of 444.

"I'm very happy, proud of the girls," said Smith. "It was a successful season. We had a lot of great things happen."

For Horseheads, Emily Legare finished seventh with a score of 103 and Brookyln Moffe (108) and Ava Fairbrother (110) were chosen as alternates. The Blue Raiders took second as a team with a score of 434.

Waverly placed first as a team with a team score of 384 with Alex Tomasso (3rd; 85), Sidney Tomasso (5th; 93) and Gabby Picco (5th; 93) finishing in the top nine.

Bailey Shoemaker of Unadilla Valley finished first overall, carding a 74 through 18 holes. Also qualifying for states included Lilliana Pranzo from Windham-Ashland, Emily Greshamn from Chenango Forks and Brenna Gleim from Hancock.

Golfers will advance to the state tournament beginning June 1 at Deerfield Country Club in Rochester, NY.
