BINGHAMTON - Corning got offensive in its 7-0 win over Binghamton Thursday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls soccer matchup.
Ashlee Volpe netted three goals to lead the Hawks while Brookelyn Batzing, Gillian Mason, Maddy Gill and Jada Felker added single scores.
Katie Grottenthaler had two assists for Corning and Lauren Gerow contributed an assist.
The Hawks had 30 shots on goal to only six for the Patriots.
“I was pleased with our ball movement against an improving Binghamton team,” Corning head coach Julie Pierce said.
Corning will travel to Ithaca at 7 p.m. Tuesday in its next matchup.

Corning 4, Vestal 3
CORNING - Corning swept doubles play to get past Vestal 4-3 Thursday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference tennis matchup.
Darien Beall & Alexa Cates (6-1, 6-0), Erin Austin & Mia Colonna (6-4, 6-0) and Esha Soni & Tatum Treadwell (6-2, 6-0) earned wins in doubles play for the Hawks.
Vestal won three of four singles matchups with Angelique DeRouen (6-2, 6-0), Shurti Venkatesh (6-4, 7-6(10-8)) and Maya Shipplick (6-0, 6-3).
Elizabeth Green won the lone singles matchup for the Hawks 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Corning improves to 2-0 and will host Elmira 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Corning 203, Elmira 283
CORNING - Corning topped Elmira 203-283 Thursday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference golf matchup.
Andrew Beall was the overall medalist for the Hawks, shooting a 37.
Tyler Thomas had a 38, Ben Tubbs shot a 41, Nishant Lahiri carded a 43, Jairam Hathwar added a 44 and Nick Hepburn added a 47.
Brock O’Hart led Elmria with a 45 and Brady Magliocca had a 49.
“Elmira is a young team with a lot of potential,” Corning head coach Chris Clark said. “My guys played well today, after a pretty match heavy week. They are looking forward to the holiday weekend to unwind.”
Boys Non-league soccer
Haverling 8, North Rose Wolcott 1
BATH - Haverling opened its season with an 8-1 victory over North Rose Wolcott Thursday in a non-league matchup.
“A real nice way to start the season,” Haverling head coach Matt Hill said. “We played well and everyone got to play. North Rose Wolcott has been a rival for a long time.”
Thomas Binkowski had three goals, Braden Yartym had two goals and Teddie Robbins, Sam Arnts and Spencer Dickson recorded single goals for the Rams.
Keefer Calkins had two assists while Justin Marshall, Binkowski, Tony Orfanidis and Arnts added single assists.
The Rams led 6-1 at the half.
Haverling (1-0) will next play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5 against Dansville.
Addison 4, Honeyoe 0
CAMPBELL - Addison used a strong second half to get past Honeyoe 4-0 in the Campbell-Savona boys soccer Tournament Thursday.
The Knights led only 1-0 at the break, but exploded for three goals in the second half.
Blake Driskell had two goals for the Knights while Colby Jones and Brayden Bills added single scores.
Bills, Brayden Coletta and Brian Simon had assists for Addison.
“It was a great start for us,” Addison head coach Mike Bills said. “We played solid defense. We changed our formation in the second half and that led to more offense and attack.”
The Knights will play Saturday in the finals at 6 p.m. against a to be determined opponent.
Hammondsport 3, Bloomfield 0
Hammondsport volleyball started off their season strong defeating Bloomfield in 3 sets 25-19, 25-20, 25-12.
Erika Hilligus and Vittoria Cateni led at the service line with 4 aces each. Cateni also put down 5 kills and had 2 blocks. Julia Bennett led with 13 kills and Brianna Pratt had 24 setter assists.
Meredith Conklin led the Bombers with 6 kills and 13 assists followed by Jaiden Purcell with 5 kills and 11 assists. Kaileah DeMeo also added 3 aces and 4 kills.
“I’m pleased with how the team started their season off against a tough Bloomfield team,” Hammondsport head coach Erica Webster said. “This team can be strong if they put in the work to get there.”
Hammondsport plays again on Wednesday, September 4th at home against Addison starting at 7.
