CORNING - Corning celebrated 10 seniors with a 6-1 victory over Horseheads Monday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls tennis matchup.

"With all 10 seniors in the starting lineup, it was a special night for a special group of kids," Corning head coach Tim Ball said. "They came through like they have all year."

With the senior-laden lineup, the Hawks won three of four singles matches with Riley Davis earning a 6-1, 6-0 win in first singles, Trisha Bhatia taking home a 6-1, 6-1 victory in second singles and Jessica Pesansky posting a 6-2, 6-3 win in fourth singles.

"Trisha played the best match she had all year in second singles for us," said Ball. "It was the first match done against a good opponent."

Horseheads' Lauren Squires win the lone match for the Blue Raiders in third singles 6-1, 6-1.

Corning swept doubles play as Erin Austin and Mia Colonna won in first doubles by a score of 6-3, 6-4, Darien Beall and Esha Soni edged out a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 victory in second doubles and Gabrielle Nares and Nicole Wendlandt won 6-2, 6-3 in third doubles.

The Hawks finish the regular season 12-3 while Horseheads finishes 5-8.

Next up for Corning and Horseheads will be sectional play.
