CORNING - No. 3 seeded Ithaca edged second-seeded Corning 3-2 Tuesday in overtime in the Section IV Class AA girls soccer semifinals.
The Little Red led much of the second half when Lucy Getzin netted her second goal of the game on a strike to the back corner 11 minutes into the half for a 2-1 lead.
The score stayed there until Corning's Gianna Chicarielli swung in a corner kick with less than two minutes left that deflected off of an Ithaca defender and Maddy Gill found the goal to level the score.
In overtime, Corning dominated the first eight minutes of the first overtime, but Ithaca found possession with two minutes remaining and was able to get a corner kick.
Gabrielle Hagan was able to sneak a ball past Hawks goalie Taylor Hurd off the corner kick to take a 3-2 lead in the overtime which held up to be the game-winning goal.
"I couldn't be prouder of this team, the way they never gave up," Corning head coach Julie Pierce said. "They he last time we played this team we didn't have a shot on goal. These girls left it all out on the field and I could not ask for more."
Ashlee Volpe scored Corning's first goal and the first goal of the contest on a 17-yard free kick in the first half.
Getzin netted her first goal eight minutes later on a chip shot goal that was just out of the reach of the Corning keeper.
Hurd had six saves for the Hawks and Emma Einarson recorded four saves for Ithava.
Ithaca will move on to play Elmira in the Section IV Class AA title game Friday at Waverly.
