CLIFTON SPRINGS - The Addison boys and girls cross country teams each took home Section V Class C titles Saturday at Midlakes High School.

"Both teams went in as underdogs," Knights head coach Tim Lyons said. "We ran beyond what others expected of us, but right where I thought we should be.”

For the girls, Faith Skowvron won the race for the Knights with a time of 19:41.9. Skowvron had the fifth fastest time in all of the sections combined.

Isabella Painter took sixth in 20:54.1 followed by Sarah Lyons (10th; 21:17.3), Vanessa Ryhal (14th; 21:54.0), Anna Carlineo (21st; 22:13.9), Olivia Thompson (49th; 24:52.6) and Kaylana Reckzis (59th; 25:51.6).

On the boys side, Hayden Mills had a third place finish for the Knights in 17:34.3, Kristopher Thompson took sixth (17:59.3), Ronnie Dailey was 11th (18:15.9), Daniel Ryhal placed 13th (18:18.1), Noah Green took 15th (18:26.3) Trent Makowiec was 18th (18:31.2) and Bobby Horton placed 59th (19:59.2).

Other local finishers in the boys race included: Nolan Harold (23rd; 18:47.3) and Mason Hoad (26th; 18:54.2) from Haverling.

Sectional volleyball

Hammondsport 3, Houghton Academy 0

HAMMONDSPORT - Top-seeded Hammondsport defeated No. 8 Houghton Academy in 3 sets Saturday by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-20.

Brianna Pratt and Vittoria Cateni led at the service line with five and four aces respectively.

Julia Bennett dominated at the net with 10 kills and Pratt added 24 setter assists.

Hammondsport will take on either No. 5 Fillmore or fourth-seeded Batavia Notre Dame, Wednesday, November 6 at 7:30 in Wayland-Cohocton.

Women's college basketball

Genesee Community College 72, Corning Community College 61

CORNING - Genesee Community College got past Corning Community College 72-61 in a women's college basketball contest.

Genesee jumped out to a 43-30 lead at halftime.

Corning cut the lead to just six at the end of the third quarter, but was outscored 16-11 in the final frame.

Breanna Palmatier led the Red Barons with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Taylor Kelly and Hannah Morse each added 12 points.

Corning (0-1) will host Jamestown Community College today at noon.

Men's college basketball

Genesee Community College 80, Corning Community College 70

CORNING - Genesee Community College topped Corning Community College 80-70 Saturday in a men's college basketball matchup.

Sam Kelly led the Red Barons with 20 points and nine rebounds and Nick Craig added 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

“Today was a good test for a season opener," Corning head coach Issac Bushey said. "Genesee is an aggressive and versatile team, and a game like this is a good learning experience for us. If we finish a few more defensive possessions, we will be right there.”

Corning will host Jamestown Community College today at 2 p.m.
