ONEONTA - Section I’s Ossining edged Corning 4-3 in extra time Wednesday in the sub-regional round of the Class AA state tournament at the Wright National Soccer Complex in Oneonta.

The Pride’s Juan Pablo Estupinan scored the game-winning goal off a scrum in front of the goal five minutes into overtime to give Ossining (18-2-1) the win.

“We wouldn't have traded this journey for any other path we’ve been on, I’m proud of the guys,” Corning head coach Steve Mastronardi said. “We played with the best we could.”

Ossining stormed out with two goals in the first 12 minutes for a 2-0 advantage on two goals from Nolan Lenaghan.

“A little nerves I guess,” said Mastronardi of the start. “I just told them there’s a lot of game left, preaching composure and confidence. After that they settled in.”

Corning closed out the half strong, tying the score with two goals. One from Seth Grottenthaler and Preston Ogunwumi on two set pieces to tie it.

“Our mental toughness, maturity and resilience really showed in coming back from 2-0,” said Mastronardi.

The Hawks took the lead early in the second half when John Greene netted a goal 15 minutes in off a third set piece.

Kevon Evans scored the tying goal with 33 seconds remaining after a corner kick was flung into the box, bounced off defenders and Evans put it in the goal.

Corning ends its season 7-8-2 as Section IV Champions.
